From the Under-17s to the senior Italy squad

Esposito's Italy pathway began with the Under-17s, where on 19 May 2022 he scored the only goal in a friendly against Israel. Under-18 and Under-19 call-ups followed.

The summer of 2023 was the turning point: in May and June he played at the Under-20 World Cup in Argentina, scoring in the quarter-final against Colombia and finishing runner-up after the final defeat to Uruguay; in July he won the Under-19 European Championship in Malta, scoring in a 4-0 win over the hosts.

From September 2023 he was a regular with the Under-21s: he debuted on 8 September against Latvia and on 5 September 2024 scored four goals in a 7-0 win over San Marino, finishing with 7 goals in 11 caps. He missed the 2025 Under-21 Euro through injury.

On 29 August 2025 came his first senior call-up, from new head coach Gennaro Gattuso. Esposito debuted on 5 September in Bergamo against Estonia (5-0) and in his second cap, on 11 October in Tallinn, scored his first senior goal in a 3-1 win over Estonia.

On 31 March 2026, in the World Cup play-off final against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Zenica, he came on in the second half and missed his penalty in the shoot-out defeat that eliminated Italy. In June he scored the decisive goals in friendlies against Luxembourg and Greece, reaching 5 goals in 9 caps.
